Massage Therapy For The Elderly

You've probably heard by now how effective massage therapy is for the elderly, but you may not know why it is considered so beneficial. Well, although massage therapy has been practiced for many years, the general public has only recently started to open their hearts and minds to this technique in recent years.

It is now known, and proven, that touch therapy and massage can help to reduce stress - someone who receives massage therapy is more relaxed and contented, sleeps deeper and for longer.

Massage therapy provides the elderly with a very nurturing feeling and it is especially helpful in aiding with medical or physical problems. The more times they experience touch, the calmer they will become. The calmer they are, the better they are able to deal with the medical interventions that they have to go through, usually on a daily basis in their old age!

Massage therapy involves the motion of the hands moving gently over various parts of the body, either hands, feet or shoulders mainly, any area most suitable for the individual.

The technique involves a lot of touching, stroking, and massaging techniques.

Massage is a wonderful experience for anyone, but for the elderly it is so beneficial and a real treat for them. Elderly people who are not medically challenged can also benefit from massage therapy. It has been shown that elderly people who are given massage therapy from a younger age tend to be more alert, smarter, healthier and happier in general.
